We were preparing to attend the first Faith Camp Asia in Sabah, Malaysia. This is going to be special because at the end of this program, we will be launching HCBN MALAYSIA. It is good that we, HCBN INDONESIA, can come and give a morale support. However, as the date of the Faith Camp Asia was coming closer, we realized that we don’t have enough money anymore to fly to Malaysia. We decided to bring this into our prayers. If God see that it is good for us to come to Malaysia and attend this program, He will provide our needs.
Two weeks before the program started, we were invited to be the media sponsor to cover the Southern Asia-Pacific Division ASI convention 2011 in Jakarta. A Singaporean family approached me and say that they were impressed by God to give me some money for my ministry. I thank God for this unexpected blessing so I rushed to Ramon Tengkano, the Director of HCBN INDONESIA, and told him that somebody give this $200 for our ministry. He looked at me and say, “I think you have money now to go to Malaysia and represent us.”
Just before I left to the airport, Ramon gave me $200, half for Uncle David and the other half is for my pocket money, just in case I need anything. A thought came to my mind that this is all we have, so I promised to myself that I will not use it for my persona need.
That was Friday afternoon, just before Sabbath. Somebody came to me, shook my hand and placed a bill and with a wink in his eyes, he left me alone and astonished. A hundred dollars in my hand. I was so emotional. I was rationalizing what just happened. I don’t have any personal need to buy and God gave this money. I concluded that this is not for me. This should go to somebody or a ministry that need help.
Sabbath morning came, Jon Wood presented his projects in India and Thailand and I was impressed to give him that money I received. Uncle David was preaching on the second sermon and was telling us a certain man in the hospital who cannot be discharged because he doesn’t have money to pay his bill and I remember that I have $100 to give to Uncle David. I immediately went to Auntie Becky and gave the money and during lunch time, I went to Jon and told him that somebody gave me money and I’m going to pass this for your ministry.
Not long after that, Auntie Becky came to me just after lunch and told me that during their visit to Indonesia, they forgot to exchange their Rupiah into Dollar and told me that probably God is keeping that for me. So she gave me an envelope and when I open it, I found $300 inside. I was so overwhelmed to realize that God just gave me blessing more than what I’ve shared. A Bible verse in Luke 6:38 came to my mind, “Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
Another volunteer was in the control at that time and I decided to share some amount to her. I told her that if you have your personal need to buy, go buy it but if you don’t have, pass it on.
Few minutes after that, Auntie Becky came to me with tears in her eyes and explained what just happened. After she handed me the envelope, she was praying,
“God, I gave all to Jerry.” At the same time, she also wanted to buy something unique from Malaysia to be displayed in the GMI headquarter.
While praying, somebody came to her, saying,
“Auntie Becky, I was thinking to buy you a slipper for travel but since I don’t know your size, I decided to just give you money.”
“Oh, I just gave all to somebody and now God replaced back again.” Replied Auntie Becky.
That afternoon, I knew from somebody that auntie Becky was wishing to buy something unique from Malaysia to bring home but she doesn’t have money anymore. And you can guess, somebody gave it to her, exactly what she wanted to buy.
Faith Camp Asia was ended and the HCBN PHILIPPINES families are going home. I went with them to the airport and when we got there, somebody handed me PHP.3000 ($73), another person gave me MYR110 ($36), and another person MYR50 ($16). The one who gave me MYR50 told me this, “Jerry, I decided not to buy anything from here to bring to the Philippines because I remembered you and I want to give this for you.” What a sacrifice!
The Lord is not finished yet in pouring out his abundant blessings that day. Just before I left the airport, somebody handed me $200. He told me that he was blessed to hear my testimony of money going around in circle the other day and he wants to be part of that miracle. Talking about blessing that “running over.”
Now, it’s time for me to back to Indonesia. On my way to the airport, somebody gave me Rp. 100,000 ($12) just enough to pay taxi to get home. I have more than enough money in my pocket now but I don’t have rupiah. God knows that I need that too 🙂
Few months later, I was talking with somebody and sharing this story. He then open a laptop in front of him, accessed his internet banking and showed me all his saving, which is $10,000. He was just recently resigned from a mining company and decided to become a volunteer in HCBN INDONESIA. He showed to me his saving and say this, “Jerry, how can I be called a missionary if I still have this money sitting on my bank account doing now? How can I experienced your faith and your story if I still have this money? I only need $100 out of this amount and the rest you can use it for your ministry.” The following day, we went to his bank and withdraw everything for his account. A lady in the counter asked him, “Sir, are you going for vocation?” He said with a smile, “No, this is for God’s work.” We went out from the bank singing All the Way My Savior Leads Me.
In the past years of being a volunteer missionary, I’ve received donation from people for the ministries that I’m involved but so far this is the first time I received that big amount of money. I then prayerfully decided to share that amount for HCBN PHILIPPINES and Jesus for Asia.
Something struck my mind and reaffirm to what I believe that God own everything. God can just pluck something and put it somewhere else. God can instruct somebody to give what they have to another person. I am awed to see how God orchestrated his power. God indeed can supply all our need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Phil 4:19).
