This year, with our 80 students, means lots of different young people. One young girl, (13 years old-4th grade ), has an extremely sad story. She also takes care of her two younger brothers, ages 10,(-4th grade), & 5,(-kindergarten). Here mother “dumped” her off, with hardly any money, and told the teachers, “she is here to learn to work.” Each child has different fathers, the 5-year old having no concept of what a father is. Their mother travels to Chile with a fourth man/(“husband”)on business, importing merchandise to sell. But her house mortgage payments to the bank take everything she earns. Which is is very little! So Nelly, Oliver, and Miler don’t have money for notebooks and pencils, or laundry soap, much less school uniforms, room, board, and tuition. The monthly tuition for primaria is only 120Bs ($17.27USD). And by the way, Nelly helps in the kitchen, and bakery —a really good helper too!
